Good To Know

History without the rush

  • Everything on this route is within about 30 minutes of Inverness

  • Works well as a half-day, or combined with another stop for a full day

  • Culloden's visitor centre entry is a separate ticket (National Trust for Scotland)

  • Good option for Outlander fans — Clava Cairns inspired part of the story

Frequently asked questions

Yes — Clava Cairns is widely understood to have inspired parts of the Outlander story, and Culloden itself features in the show's timeline.

Culloden Battlefield has flat, well-maintained paths; Clava Cairns is a short walk from parking. Nothing strenuous.

No, entry to the visitor centre and exhibition is a separate ticket, paid on the day. The battlefield grounds themselves are freely accessible.

Yes — it pairs naturally with a Loch Ness half-day, or as a shorter add-on if you're arriving or departing via Inverness Airport.

As a half-day it's around 4 to 5 hours; add Fort George or extend the pace and it can fill a fuller day.
